Dazhbog is associated with the sun, which was gifted to him at his birth to symbolize the starry brightness of his new existence. He represents the dawning opportunity for greatness each day. The Vanquisher of Darkness is revered for his ability to bend the heavenly element of fire—though unlike his father Svarog, who utilizes it to create, Dazhbog harnesses fire to fight. With his holy sword, he channels the chaotic fury of divine fire into his blade. The valiant, brave, and bold Champion of the Gods presides over the heavenly armies as commander of the celestial vanguard. 

Temples dedicated to Dazhbog double as arenas and stadiums where athletes and fighters compete, though idols and shrines are equally popular places of worship. The handsome god is honored throughout the world, and his clerics are often seasoned war priests themselves. Athletes, monks, fighters, and soldiers call upon Dazhbog’s name and pray to gain a fraction of his unyielding fearlessness and courage. 

At the height of the summer solstice, people gather to witness the extraordinary feats Dazhbog’s courageous devotees perform in his name. A long stretch of road is covered in burning coals and then walked by those who wish to gain the Son of Fire’s blessing and endurance. Those who finish the path are dubbed “Champions of Fire.” Not only are they seen as his heroic disciples, but they receive armor and weapons made for them by the best smiths, free of charge.
