Perun
King of the Gods, The Divine Justice, The Thunderer
Domains: War, Tempest
Just as the crackling bolts of lightning amidst a raging thunderstorm are the manifestation of the untamable power of nature, so too is Perun the very embodiment of raw energy and devotion. Perun’s priests teach that he was the first celestial to be molded by Rod, formed from the heart of a gigantic star. This primeval star’s surface was engulfed by never-ending storms of lightning and thunder, while churning molten metals spun within its core. Rod’s will manifested, and Perun came into being. Gods and celestials pledged their loyalty, love, and respect to Perun, crowning him King of the Gods—the majority of them, at least. Perun is also the consort of Earth Mother Mokesha, the Great Seer of fate. Together, they unify the heavenly planes and perpetuate existence in harmony. The Thunderer’s name is invoked by rulers and called upon by warriors in times of need or celebration. People also pray to him when justice needs to be served in courts of law, or to be granted courage and resolve in dire situations
Perun’s symbol is carved on houses, fortifications, and palaces to invoke strength and protection. Warriors etch Perun’s symbol—gromoviy znak (thundermark)— on shields and weapons to receive his thunderous and mighty blessings in battle. Temples dedicated to the King of the Gods, often designed like fortresses and castles, are primarily found in large cities, though small shrines made in his image are spread throughout the world. Perun is the law and will of all celestials in one. He is a husband, a father, a brother, a warrior, a leader, a friend. As king, he is a stern but fair ruler, and guardian of all planes of existence. It is Perun who passes down the judgment and who has the final word, he who is the embodiment of the power of Creation itself.
