Radigost
The Jolly Guest, The Storyteller, The Wise Counsel
Domains: Knowledge, War
Radigost is known as the keeper of traditions, knowledge, and hospitality. Among Radigost’s many qualities and duties, he holds the role of trusted advisor and friend to the King of Gods, Perun. The Wise Counsel is a thinker first and foremost, but his holy axe is as sharp as his mind, and he is revered by strategists and generals who rely on intelligence rather than brute force to win battles. A proverb often cited by his followers or found etched on the walls of his temples serves as a prayer to him: “The blade of the sharpest weapon cannot match the calm of the still and focused mind.”
The Storyteller’s followers are often bards, monks, scribes, wizards, teachers, commanders, and inventors. Holy sites dedicated to Radigost include schools, monasteries, and other places of learning. Radigost’s tenets describe the importance of hospitality—to be kind to one another and to never shut the door to those who knock in need.
As myth is mostly passed down verbally, it is commonplace for stories to be told around fires and during feasts. Mortals believe the Storyteller secretly attends all festivities and revelries in Rodozem, listening to the tales and ensuring the sacred vows of hospitality are kept. If these gatherings don’t show hospitality to Radigost, the food and drink may turn sour and ruin the feast. To prevent this, an empty seat, a plate filled with food, and a drinking horn filled with wine are always set aside for the Jolly Guest, and at least one tale is told so that tradition may persevere.
