Svarog
The Bright Smith, The Everburning Soul of Creation
Domains: Light
Svarog is the lord of the heavenly element of fire, the creator and architect of the planes of existence, and god of craftsmanship and the forge. Clerics and priests of Svarog teach of his renowned power of Creation, an ability akin to that of the primordial creator Rod, even if only a fraction of Rod’s power. Svarog’s might binds the heat of the heavenly fire into his divine forge. Ancient carvings and folktales chronicle Svarog’s mythic creations, portraying how the Everburning Soul of Creation mastercrafted the magnificent weapons of other gods, the mighty Crown of Perun that bound the loyalty of each god, and, finally, the planes of existence.
Every self-respecting craftsman and forgemaster pays homage to the Bright Smith. Holy festivals and celebrations in his name take the form of kind-hearted rivalries where novice and seasoned artisans alike gather to compete against one another, crafting and forging with the finest ores, great speed, and unmatched quality. The winner is dubbed “Svarog’s Chosen” and is said to receive the Bright Smith’s blessing. The item crafted by Svarog’s Chosen is placed on an anvil-shaped altar as an offering to the Bright Smith—a sacrifice of sweat, blood, and time.
Though Svarog is revered by those who build, craft, and create, rulers also invoke his name. As Svarog is the lord of the heavenly fires, he represents the fires burning in the mortal planes—fires that allow mortals to cook, craft, warm themselves, and keep the creatures of darkness at bay. There are temples dedicated to Svarog, though small shrines and chapels are just as common and widely spread throughout Rodozem. Common folk believe the sparks from Svarog’s holy anvil light the night sky and fill it with stars, hence his title—the Bright Smith.
Svarog is also the consort of Lada, goddess of the divine element of water, union, and love. Together, they have two beautiful children; Morana, goddess of winter and death, and Dazhbog, lord of the sun.
Rarog, the Fiery Falcon. Legends are told of Svarog’s mighty companion, the Rarog. It is the very spirit of the heavenly fires, imbued with the divine powers of creation that fuel Svarog’s legendary forge. It is a rare sight to see this fiery bird, and an even rarer one to be granted its blessing. It is the manifestation of the divine smith into the mortal realm. The Bright Smith sends his companion to emblazon his most ardent followers with might and inspiration
